Monday... after the marathon.

Yesterday I worked the Marine Corp Marathon as a volunteer. They had me helping with the photo finishers ushering the runners in after they finished. I had a little time before I had to get to my place for voluteering so I waited for the first wave of runners to come through. But, before they come through they have the wheelchair and the handicapped get a head start. The wheelchairs are really cool and inspiring to say the least, but I couldn't help but sob when the blind runner and the man pushing his severly handicapped/deformed son came through (I am choking up again as I write this again)... I looked over at the lady next to me crying as well, where we were standing. She was trying to get it together too... we both started laughing when we realized we were both crying. It was obviously terribly moving. Anyway... working the finish line was really a great experience. I was standing by the finish line where the Marines were putting the medals over peoples heads, and I was amazed that 50% of the people that came through thanked the marines for their service and wanted to shake their hands. It was really amazing. I froze my butt off though. It was so cold and I wasn't ready for it. I remember being effected by the cold last year when I ran it as well. Seems like it is always that weekend that the weather gets windy and cold and it is tough to run. It was a great experience otherwise. I am glad I was able to give back. We went out to dinner with our friends Heather and Erik, and had a great time. Gordon Beirsch never disappoints. I am tired today. Not sure what is up with that.
